kokki2Chef Game (“Kokkipeli” in Finnish) is an educational game published by the Finnish Board of Education. It is aimed for hotel, restaurant and catering service students in vocational colleges and covers three categories: customer service, special diets and nutrition.

Project started in 2011 and the first game was published in late 2012. Game included 500 multiple choice questions, interactive puzzles, videos and images in the customer service category. It soon gathered a wide user base in Finnish vocational colleges with 36 registered educational institutes and over 4000 players, covering nearly one third of the target group in Finland. Game is also translated into Swedish.

Successful first game led to over tripling the content with two new categories (special diets and nutrition). New questions, puzzles, videos, animations and restaurant items will make the game provide learning content for students in several phases of their three-year curriculum. New content was published in November 2014 with the Swedish content update coming early 2015.

Game is build around the player managing a virtual restaurant. Game includes also a multiplayer mode for students in the same class and an extensive back-end for teachers to track the progression and adjust the difficulty for individual students with learning difficulties.

Game is based on HTML5 technology and can be played for free on all modern browsers and on iPad.

Since the beginning of 2014 we have been working together with academics and industry partners mainly in the field of health gaming at RMIT University’s Games & Experimental Entertainment Laboratory GEElab.

The Extra-Terveellinen (eng. “The Extra-Healthy“) is a point-and-click adventure game about a primary school teenager and Dithwik Gubweggel, an alien who has arrived to Earth to study the habits and life of humans as a part of intergalactic student-exchange program.

Game is aimed for primary school students as a part of their health studies. Game was developed for Laurea University of Applied Sciences as a part of an large health and well-being centered project. Current version of the game is a prototype and project will be continued in early 2015.

PaLaVa is a visual tool for understanding and planning the personalized curriculum in vocational college. Application can be used as a study planning tool for current students as well as introduction material for others. Application covers 12 study programs and was created as a part of an EU project for the Central Ostrobothnia Vocational College in Finland.

Get a Life 2.0

Get a Life 2.0 is an future working life simulation for university students, where the user can experiment with different future scenarios of changing working life. User can start from the beginning of studies or just after graduation and make decisions 25 years to the future.

We created the game engine and visual style of the simulation for the Finland Futures Research Center at the University of Turku. Development of the framework and the front-end was done in iterative fashion in co-operation with the research group from the university.
